Chapter 36
The Hall of Reflection
The final leg of her journey through the transitory realm was one where she seemed to walk upside down over long narrowing facets headed toward another point. Many facets were twisting and flowing to that point, each some other gleaming pattern of color and light. But here, Sammyâs walk was repeated in each facet and they inexorably drew together with each step.
Reflections in many mirrored worlds becoming one.
At the end was another circular mirror face. Behind it, from its edges, she felt tremendous light and power waitingâ¦
Her reflection was⦠odd. She looked similar to Azure, but more like she had been when theyâd linked and unified in power â her skin itself was a gleaming, liquid-seeming mirror, and she wore a light, diaphanous dress of sky blue. It was strange to look like her, but it was just the mirror itself. Her own body was still actually covered in armor.
The mirror also had a handle, she realized. It was a door. She reached for it-
âSamantha.â She froze immediately and held her breath as the Fortuneteller addressed her. Mirrored Azureâs eyes were wide looking back at her in the door. âWhen you open this door, the light of the Hall will take you. Do not look directly into sideway portals unless you Find One Youâre Looking For or it is an emergency. It is easy to be drawn into them, especially when you feel a pull. Resist the pull. This is a place of intent. Go where you intend only.
âOnce the door is open, you will find the pathways less arduous to walk to get here again. This is your most obvious section, but there are always other ways. Other keys and triggers. For now, go only toward the end. Take any stairs upward you find. If you get to the elevators, take it to the top. You want to go to the top.
âDo not dawdle. The more [Difference] you take with you when you leave, the greater the risk to reality and the Systemâs response. High levels are a greater shield, as are other tricks eventually, but you donât have the luxury yet. Keep moving.
âAvoid other various incarnations. If you ever feel a dread presence, flee. Run. Do not engage, converse, or attempt to fight. Get away until that dread is gone. Otherwise, youâll be destroyed. Or worse.â
Sammy swallowed a lump in her throat. âGreat. Yeah. Okay. Easy. Um⦠FT? Iâm⦠sheâs not⦠weâre not like, the same⦠person?â She gestured at âherselfâ in the mirror, i.e. Azure. âBecause that would be super-weirdâ¦â
Exasperation and disappointment flared out from the amalgamated entity. âNo, youâre not the same person, you fool! You can be One in joining with another without being the same. Thatâs a rudimentary symbolic concept! What you see â Her Perfect Reflection â simply lets you know youâve come to the right place.â
âAlright, alright⦠sorry. Just wanted it to not be as weird, is allâ¦â
âYou will not hear from me inside, nor can you access your realm.
