Chapter

Fifteen

Gareth wanted to howl.

His father was going to ruin everything. Zeke was really angry. Not with him, but about the threat to the dragons. Gareth couldn’t blame him. What the hell was his father thinking? Gareth wanted to march down the mountain and bite him, but that would be gross and it would get him in trouble with his mate.

Still, maybe he ought to go confront him like a man. The babies needed him though. Seth was still spending most of his time sleeping with little Calliope, and Declan needed him to entertain Kiefer half the day…

What could he do? Talking to his dad on the phone had been useless. Maybe he would call Loyal and see what he thought was the best. Gareth could talk to Jameson and Keegan…

He dropped his forehead in his hands, trying to stop his head from pounding. He couldn’t afford to get sick, not right now. Everything was up in the air.

It didn’t matter. Nausea ripped through him, surprising him, and he ran for the bathroom, barely making it time to be violently ill. Oh, nasty. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d done that. Maybe as a child?

He washed his face, his knees week. Dammit. Zeke? Mate? Can you please send Justin to me?

Of course. What’s wrong?

I just need to see him.

He’s on his way.

He waited, but he didn’t want to make anyone sick, so he watched the kids from the bathroom doorway. And he almost jumped out of his skin when a lovely lady walked out of a corner of the room, blinking at him for a moment.

“Goodness, you don’t look like you feel well, Gareth.”

“No. No, I very much don’t. I’m sorry, do you know Zeke?” He was not letting her near the babies.

“Yes. My name is Arian. I came to see him. He mentioned something about tea.”

“Oh. Yes of course.” He swayed. He had met her, right?

“Arian! What a pleasant surprise.” Justin came into the main room, smiling. Then he frowned when he saw Gareth. “Are you sick, hon?”

“I’m afraid I am, yes. I was hoping you could keep the children. I don’t want them to get sick.” Pups with bugs could get very ill, very fast.

“Hmm.” Justin stepped right past the sleeping kids, putting a hand to Gareth’s forehead. “Well, you’re not feverish.”

“Oh, but—”

“I think they’ll be fine, but if you want to go lie down, I’ll watch the kids. I can start the tea and let Zeke know you’re here, lady.”

“Thank you, dear. I appreciate it.” Arian smiled softly. “However, I should make the tea. I have a blend that will soothe Gareth here.”

“Oh.” Justin grinned. “Well, Zeke is on his way.”

Gareth wanted to hide, but Arian wouldn’t let him. She took his arm and led him to the kitchen area, putting him in a chair with a serene smile. “You aren’t contagious.”

“I hope not. I’d feel awful giving the babies a bug. Have you met Calliope and Kendall yet?” The new babies were amazing—perfect additions to the clan.
