Hailey wasnât prepared for the ranch. She thought she was, but when she actually was able to see it, she realized that the sprawling house exceeded her wildest expectations.
As they came closer, she let out a low whistle. âYou people really live in that?â she asked in awe.
âYes, why?â he asked, amused by her reaction.
This was bigger than huge, she couldnât help thinking. âWhat happens when you forget to bring your GPS with you?â she wanted to know.
Dillon began to laugh. âItâs not that big,â he told her.
âNo?â she questioned. âIn comparison to what? New York City?â
Still laughing, he shook his head. âYouâre exaggerating.â
âNot by much,â she countered. âDonât get me wrong, Iâm sure itâs gorgeous on the inside. Iâm just used to something a little homier. Something I wouldnât wind up getting lost in,â she added.
âDo you do that a lot?â
âNot until now,â she answered, looking at the mansion again.
âThen let me take you on a tour of my wing,â Dillon offered.
She didnât bother hiding the stunned look on her face. âYou have a wing,â she marveled.
âWell, itâs more like a suite, but yeah. We each do,â he told her. âRemember, I told you that when I said we bought the ranch,â he reminded her.
She did remember his saying something to that effect. âI guess maybe I didnât really take you literally,â she told him.
He didnât understand why she wouldnât. âI donât make things up,â he told her.
âIâm beginning to learn that,â she said. âTell me more,â she urged.
Because he didnât know when she would want to go back home, he left his car parked in the circular driveway and then got out.
âI will. On the tour,â he promised. Rounding the hood, he came up to her door on the passenger side and then opened it without any fanfare. As she began to get out, he offered her his arm.
She had assumed that his formal politeness would fade after he had gotten used to her, but apparently she was wrong. His behavior gave every appearance of continuing indefinitely.
Heaven help her, but she had to admit that she rather liked that.
