Chapter Fifteen
Maggie woke and stretched her hand out expecting to find Charly. She did not. Her eyes fluttered open, and she took in the room which up until now she had mostly seen in the darkness. With the exception of the clothes strewn across the floor, everything was tidy. Things seemed to be organized with a place for everything. The exact opposite from Maggie's wildly eclectic room. Beside the window there was a desk, with pens and stationery all laid out straight. Maggie grinned as she moved the box of stationery a quarter of an inch to the right. The pens all lay vertically, and she lay the last one in a horizontal position. She chuckled to herself knowing that Charly would easily detect even that slight a change. She grabbed one of Charly's old, oversized t-shirts from the drawers and threw it on over her underwear.
As she walked down the stairs she could smell the unmistakable scent of someone cooking breakfast. The sight that greeted her as she rounded the corner was enough to dampen her underwear. In the kitchen stood Charly, dressed only in a bright pink extra-large sweatshirt which featured the cast of Designing Women across the front. Her auburn hair lay loose around her shoulders, still slightly mussed from the night before. At the stove she cooked several pieces of French Toast. Charly looked up and caught her watching, she smiled waving Maggie over. Maggie sat in one of the tall barstools at the kitchen counter.
"Good morning you." Charly smiled.
"Good morning Pumpkin." Maggie returned a sleepy smile still strung across her lips.
"What's that expression for?" Charly asked raising an eye brow.
"Mmmm I'm just now realizing that redheads wearing sweatshirts with female icons of the 80s and 90s is exactly my type. I can't believe I never noticed before."
"That is strange. Who would have guessed Maggie Lossett would suffer from a failure of imagination."
"I guess I'll have to up my game."
"Clearly."
"I hope you're hungry."
"After last night, how could I not be?" Charly wore a cocky grin that itself threatened to draw Maggie in for one more round before she headed out. Charly held up a bottle of syrup and Maggie realized she was asking if she wanted any.
"Yes, please." Maggie smiled. Charly poured a generous amount on her plate and set it in front of her. Taking her finger Maggie swiped the syrup with her finger, a habit picked up from childhood. She began raising it to her mouth when Charly caught her wrist and gently covered her finger with her own mouth. Sucking the syrup off. She gave Maggie a self-satisfied wink. Before she had time to think about it Maggie grabbed the back of Charly's head pulling her in for a kiss. She curled her lips around Charly's tongue and gave it the tiniest sucking motion. The taste of syrup still lingered there. When Maggie pulled away she met Charly's eyes and gave a raspy whisper.
"Mine." Charly laughed spinning the barstool so that it faced her.
