KYLE

May 6 (London)

The Jaguar vibrated to a stop across the Jolly Oyster Pub and Kyle lowered the window. Eyes scanning the crowds through the stream of traffic, he looked for her and found her. His heart punched his throat. His instinct was to sprint out of the car, throw himself into the traffic and knock the lights out of the dipshit holding his girl. Indecisive, he swore under his breath.

Eddie twisted around. “Did you say something, sir?”

“No.” Hands groping the door handle, he paused.

Stop. Stop. Think.

Gritting his teeth, he jerked back in the car seat and shut his eyes.

Strength. Resistance. Control.

Resistance, like swimming against water velocity. Control, using force to stop momentum, like slowing down in a bullet-speed dive. Strength, both Resistance and Control applied. It took every ounce of his strength to move his hand off the door. He was not going to get involved.

Don’t look. You are not going to be in her life forever.

It ends in two months. Don’t look. Don’t look.

But that he could not do. He slowly inched forward, eyes like laser beams. The maggot fucker had his hands on Juniper’s shoulders. He was almost licking her face. Tension coiled in Kyle’s body. His blood sang with rage. His hands balled into fists and every muscle in his body hardened. If he left the car, he’d end up in jail. To stop himself from going rogue, he jammed his feet under the driver’s seat... so hard, they hurt.

Kyle stared as Dean leaned closer to her, whispering in her ear.

How can she let dickface get so close to her?

He watched as she resisted him...good job...but Dean dug his hands deeper on her shoulder blades.

His mother should have thrown him away and kept the placenta.

He watched as she finally shoved him away and he fell to the brick wall.

What the hell happened in two weeks?

Juniper was on her phone. Waiting for her call, Kyle ticked off the seconds in his head. A clusterfuck of 90 ninety seconds. He waited for those endless seconds, some clockwork mechanism in his mind calculating the nanoseconds. She did not call him. Instead she was still talking to the piece of shit.

“Shall I go and find your passenger?” Eddie asked.

“No, I can do that.” Taking a deep breath as he opened the car door, Kyle leapt into the traffic and rain.

She was deep in conversation with the dickface professor...but she felt him...and turned. Kyle caught his breath. No matter how many times he saw her, nothing prepared him for the way the world changed with her in it. The dark tunnel turned into a wide blue sky.

“Hello, Juniper.”

“Hi, Kyle.” Eyes wide in concern, she stood in front of Dean. As if that’d protect him from a beating. This annoyed him to no end.

“Hello, there.” Dean looked shocked to see him and struggled keep a straight face.

“Yeah, you too.” Flexing his fists, Kyle gave Dean a sharp nod, silently communicating his desire to commit an act of felony.

Dean thrust his hands in his pockets and said to her, “I will see you on Monday, Juniper.
