Chapter 13

Aidan

Shopping with Grace had been quite an experience. Nothing like the times he’d gone with Ashley. He looked down at the stuffed bear he was holding and quickly shoved it into his luggage. Grace had become sort of an angel to him, a Christmas miracle even. Her presence calmed him at the same time it was turning him on. Truth be told, he had never been more attracted to another woman before. Maybe it was her quirky personality, but more likely, it was her sweet little ass. And that was only one of the features on her that he liked...a lot.

He was waiting in the parking lot, freezing his own less than sweet little ass off. Where was she? Granted, to be fair, Aidan had only been waiting about ten minutes, and the Jeep hadn’t warmed up yet. He was eager to get on the road. Aidan was lost in his thoughts when the phone rang.

“Hello?” Aidan answered as he kept watch for Grace.

“Just checking in,” Kim’s cheerful voice said. “How’s the trip going?”

“Well...,” Aidan started.

“Oh no. Please tell me she didn’t cancel.”

“Nothing like that. Just a little last minute shopping.”

“How sweet of her. She didn’t have to get us anything.”

Aidan gently smacked the steering wheel. “That’s what I told her.”

“That’s really nice of her,” Kim said and then asked, “How are things going between you two? I can’t tell you how excited I am to meet her.”

“Yeah, she’s pretty great.” That was a bit of understatement. Aidan couldn’t explain the connection he felt with Grace. To think that only days before he hadn’t known she existed. Now she was all he thought about.

“What’s your ETA? I still have some last-minute stuff to do,” Kim asked. She sounded slightly distracted. Aidan could almost picture her running around and barking orders at the kids and Jake.

“Make sure you leave some stuff for Grace, she’s dying to make some cookies. She’s got some pretty grand plans. You can probably expect us late afternoon, or early evening at the latest,” Aidan answered when he spotted Grace practically jogging toward the Jeep. “Hey Sis, Grace is headed to the car now. I’ll check in later.”

“Drive safe.”

Aidan hopped out of the Jeep to help Grace.

“No, peeking,” she teased as she clutched one bag close to her chest.

“Ooh, something for me?”

“Possibly.”

He loved how fun Grace was. She didn’t take things too seriously and he felt at ease around her. He was also starting to feel a whole lot of other things too.

After they loaded the shopping bags, Aidan asked, “You ready to go now?”

“Yes. Let’s do this.”
