Chapter Six
Morgan was up before dawn. Careful not to wake Victor, she dressed quietly and went down the hall and opened the door to the suite Cord used when he stayed there. He was lying face down on the bed with his feet hanging off.
She went to the bed, sat, and shook him. "Cord, wake up!"
After a moment, Cord opened one eye and looked at her. "What time is it?"
"Almost five."
He groaned and pulled a pillow over his head. She slapped him across his bare behind, and he turned over. "Go away. We didn't get back until an hour ago."
"There's something we need to do!" She grabbed his arm and pulled him into a sitting position.
"What?" He yawned and rubbed his eyes.
"Can you still get hooked up to the satellite?" She asked. "You know, the one you used to attack Victor?"
Cord's eyes popped wide open. "What? Why would you ask that?"
She jumped up, grabbed his jeans, and handed them to him. "Tell me. Can you do it?"
"Sure, I guess so." He stood up and put on his jeans, then headed for the bathroom. "But why?"
Morgan followed him, and he stopped her at the door. "I need to use the bathroom. Do you mind?"
"Well for crying out loud!" She turned around. A few minutes later, she turned back around and watched him finish brushing his teeth. "So, why do you want me to do that?" He asked.
Morgan led the way out of his room and downstairs to the kitchen. The coffeemaker had already turned on, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. Pouring herself a cup and getting Cord a glass of juice, she sat down at the table.
"You remember I said that Zarthos uses mechanical devices?" She asked, then took a sip of coffee and grimaced.
Cord shook his head as she added more cream to her cup. "Yeah, I remember."
"Well, if we happen to run into him, we may need some firepower of our own. We can't go around with weapons, but you could easily conceal that little gizmo you devised."
"You really think that will be necessary?"
"Let me put it like this. Zarthos won't think twice about using whatever weapons he has at his disposal to get what he wants. And we have his people to contend with as well. I hope we won't be forced into a fight, but if we are, we're going to need a hell of a lot more than fists and swords to take them on."
Cord reached up and scratched the back of his neck. "Well, unless the access codes have been changed, I think I can do it. But I'll need a couple of hours to get it set up, and I'll have to go home and get the remote."
Morgan stood up. "Okay, then let's get started. We'll go to the house and get the remote and anything else you need then you can get on the computer when we get back."
"You don't have to go."
"I know, but I'd like to take a ride on the bike with you.
