Chapter Twenty-Four
The house was far nicer than Jena had expected with plenty of lovely views from the rooms sheâd spend any amount of time in.
The master bedroom was perfect. The color was the nice shade of blue with a king bed that was unmade as well as a bench at the end of it and a chaise in the corner next to a table.
Next door was the nursery which was a nature scene with fairies on the wall along with butterflies. There were three cribs and two change tables as well as two rockers.
âIs there something you want to change?â Sidony asked from behind her.
âNo.â Jena went to the window and opened the shutters to peer out into the backyard. She was surprised to see women working in the yard to create a garden.
There were benches and other equipment just waiting to be set in place.
âThe yard is very big,â Sidony said. âPart of it is being turned into a secret garden type thing from The Secret Garden. Apparentlyââ
âItâs one of my favorite stories. I always wanted to have a garden like that. Will there be a tree swing?â
âAs per Jorjaâs orders,â Sidony said.
Jena turned to face her finding the other woman watching her with dark eyes that were so like Jorjaâs. Sidony hadnât taken to her as fast as Casey had and Jena wondered if the woman even liked her.
âIs Kahlan still here?â Jena asked.
âYes.â
âIâd like a word with her,â she said. âAnd Iâd like you to be present.â
âAs you wish,â Sidony said and removed a phone from her pocket. She made a call. âSheâs on her way up.â
âThank you.â Jena moved back into the bedroom. âHas Rue arrived?â
âShe went out to get some other things, but she should be back soon. She said she left you a salad with chocolate shavings in the fridge.â
Jena nodded and the knock at the door claimed her attention. âCome in.â
The door opened and Kahlan stepped inside. âThe house looks good,â Kahlan commented.
âKahlan,â Jena said allowing the animal inside her to come to the fore.
âYes?â
âDonât ever use magic on me again without my permission,â Jena told her. âNext time tell me what I need to know.â
âYou werenât listening,â Kahlan replied. âArguing with you would have wasted time we didnât have. I told you the primary point of you being moved was to keep you safe.â
âDonât do it again,â Jena told her. âIf you do, youâre fired.â
âIf she does, Jorja will eat her if you like,â Sidony said calmly.
âIâm not getting eaten,â Kahlan retorted, giving Sidony a cold look.
âDonât find out,â Jena told her. âNow, call Rue and tell her to get back here. I want a shake.â
âYouâre going to turn into a shake,â Kahlan told her. âThe midwife is ready to see you when youâre ready.â
âI donât need a doctor. I need a shake,â Jena told her coldly.
âDonât be so petulant,â Kahlan replied. âRue is on her way back with some good chocolate.â
âWhy did she leave?â Sidony demanded. âEverything she needed was here.â
âShe said some of the chocolate was tainted.
