CATATONIC - thatâs how I feel right now. I never knew seeing that phone number would be something that would literally knock me on my ass, but fuck me, it did.
It was like everything I fought before meeting Eric, all crumpled into a fucking phone number. The sludge, the darkness, the complete and utter despair I would feel when I would even think about being with a man.
I shudder in revulsion.
âWeâre almost back to my place,â Eric tells me, and I hear him, but Iâm not sure I can process it.
âTake me to my house. I need to be alone.â
âNo, Calvin, thatâs not the way this works.â His voice has an authority to it unlike anything Iâve ever heard from him before. âBeing alone is the exact opposite of what you need right now. Besides, your car, your gear, itâs all at my house.â
âWhy are you doing this?â My voice comes out more accusatory than Iâd wanted it to.
âDoing what?â
I groan in frustration. âMaking me deal with this shit.â
I catch him in a silent snort. âBecause dealing with it is the only way youâll be able to get past it. Dealing with it is the only way we can work this out.â He looks at me, pinning me with a hard stare and adds, âTogether.â
âWhat is there to work through?â
âWhy do you want to be alone?â he counters, obliterating any sense of argument I thought I might have to get him to take me home, though I could still get in my car and go home. He wouldnât leave my guitars behind. I look at him skeptically. You know what? He just might do that out of spite for me leaving him.
âI need to figure this shit out,â I counter, hoping heâll see this my way and take me home, but I have a feeling it wonât work.
âFigure what out? You donât even know who called you or why they called you, so what exactly is there to work out?â He sighs. âLook, if you can give me one good reason for us to not go through with our original plan, then Iâm all ears, but Calvin, youâre not alone, this isnât something you have to fight on your own.â
âI can listen to the message,â I tell him and he just shakes his head.
âIf you wanted to do that, you would have done it already, your phone is right there.â He nods toward my phone sitting under the radio between us. âBut you havenât because you donât want to deal with it, youâd rather hide from it, so rather than secluding yourself in your house, come to my house and when you want to know what the message says, Iâll tell you.â
I sigh, of course he has a good fucking point. âI feel bad,â I tell him honestly.
âSo youâd rather run away from explaining to me why you âfeel badâ? Well, Iâm pretty sure I can guess why it is that you feel bad, but the bottom line in this
