Ayden had gone out to the garage behind the house to work on his motorcycle. Tinkering helped him think and put things into perspective.

That was always his goal when he came out here, but that didn’t mean it worked every time. He was still trying to figure out how to handle the whole Oric situation. Of course Ayden wanted the brother dead, but he couldn’t outright kill him.

That would be coldblooded murder, and although Oric was interfering with a mating, Ayden also didn’t want to suffer any consequences with the Ultionem from tracking that bastard down and ending him.

Would there be any repercussions? Would Fynn hate him for killing Oric? No matter what his mate said, Oric was still family, and Ayden didn’t want Fynn hating him for ending the prick’s life.

Then there were the parents. Would they retaliate? Would they demand justice for Oric’s death?

“Do you care?” Ayden growled to himself. “No matter what, you’re ending that psycho’s life.”

Ayden always prided himself on doing the right thing. He liked to follow the letter of their laws, but this was different. This matter involved his mate, and Ayden would do whatever he had to in order to ensure Fynn’s safety.

“Talking to yourself?” Cisco asked as he and Nixon strolled into the garage. “They say that’s the first sign you’re losing it.”

“I’m pretty sure it’s answering yourself that’s the first sign,” Nixon corrected as he took a seat on one of the stools by the workbench. “You haven’t started doing that, have you?”

“Only in my head.” Ayden tossed the shop rag at the workbench. “What do you two want?”

“Can’t we just chill and catch up?” Cisco turned a chair around, straddling it, resting his arms on the back of it. “You’ve been so busy with Fynn lately. We’re just seeing how things are going.”

Ayden eyed them. His pack was made of warriors, brothers not by blood but by bond. They would fight at his back any day of the week, but getting in touch with emotions wasn’t something they did.

“What do you guys really want?”

“We just heard from a little blond birdie, who heard from a big wolf, that you might be going on a mission soon, and we’re volunteering to help.”

Fucking Gem. Although Ayden liked the human, and had started to care about him, the guy had a big mouth. But he wouldn’t have known a damn thing if Grey hadn’t told him. “So you guys have turned into the gossip mill around here?”

Cisco pressed his hands against his chest, looking wide-eyed at Ayden. “Me? I’ll have you know that I’ve never gossiped a day in my life.”

Nixon rolled his eyes.

“Tell that to someone who doesn’t know you so well.” Ayden went to the fridge in the corner and pulled out several bottled beers, tossing each of the men one before he cracked his own open. Preternatural beings couldn’t get drunk off of human alcohol, but who didn’t love the taste of a cold brew on such a warm night?

The cold liquid tasted good on his parched throat, which only made him think of Fynn.
