Chapter 10
Once the limo arrived back at Lori’s house, Brooklyn, Addison and Tabitha made their way to the hotel in Biloxi with the suitcase full of money.
While Addison and Brooklyn were worried about what the money meant, Tabitha just wanted to know if they would be able to keep the money if no one claimed it.
“I wouldn’t count on anyone claiming that money once it’s turned over to the police,” Brooklyn said before adding, “It’s probably stolen or counterfeit.”
“Way to take the fun out of it,” Tabitha told him with a frown.
“This isn’t fun!” Addison exclaimed. “I don’t like being responsible for this much money. And, if it’s stolen or counterfeit, we could be in danger….serious danger!”
Now that it was said aloud, the rest of the car ride was silent.
Addison felt slightly better once they made it to their hotel.
“Just walk through the lobby as if it were any other day. We don’t want anyone to think anything is wrong,” Brooklyn stressed. He kept his eyes peeled as he wheeled the suitcase towards the elevator.
Once they were headed up to the eleventh floor and no one else got onto the elevator with them, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
As they approached the room, the fraction of peace they felt had all but vanished. The door was ajar, and the room was trashed. It was obvious that someone was looking for something specific in their room.
Addison started to enter the room, but Brooklyn grabbed her arm and signaled for her to back up into the hall and stay quiet. “Whoever did this could still be in there,” he whispered to both Addison and Tabitha.
As he drew his gun from its shoulder holster, he checked out the room, but it was empty. He knew one thing, though: the crooks knew who Addison was, and how to find her.
Once they reached the elevator, Addison spoke up. “What are we going to do? Where can we go?”
“We’ll check into another hotel, where they can’t find you,” Tabitha answered, but Brooklyn told both ladies that they would be coming home with him.
Once again, as they walked through the lobby, the three of them acted as normal as possible. “Shouldn’t I notify the front desk,” Addison asked.
“No. We can call them once we get you to a safe place.” Brooklyn knew the people who were after the money were likely hanging around the casino somewhere, probably hoping to catch Addison and the suitcase.
He told the women to stay near the entrance while he got the car from the parking garage. It was late, and the parking garage was dark. He felt it would be safer for the girls if they stayed in the highly trafficked and lit area while he got the car alone.
As soon as Brooklyn turned the corner, Addison felt something sharp dig into her back. At first, she thought she had bumped into the corner of a trash can, but then she saw the look of fear in Tabitha’s face.
“Don’t scream or say a word or I’ll kill you,” a voice said from behind Addison.
