The Cabin Lake House
The cabin on the lake sat on a hill behind Jack and Barbie Wallbanger's house, a rabbit Shifter couple with twelve children. It did not thrill Bart that potentially twelve baby rabbit Shifters would be running all around the lake and interfering with their weekend antics. But he loved Jack and Barbie. They were the perfect couple, literally. They'd received the championship coupleâs trophy at the Samhain Festival for the last five years running, for being the best at everything; not just having children. They were the best at all the games; the pie-eating contest, the beer pong bash, and the ballroom dance finale. They were a power couple of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. He envied them.
"Man, this cabin is the bomb. Look at these views." Reggie stood in front of the wall of windows overlooking the lake. âIâm so glad weâre not staying with your sisters this year.â
"Very cool." Sparky took the stairs two at a time. "I claim the big bedroom for me and Misty."
Bart cleared his throat and looked up at his fox Shifter friend galloping through the exposed upstairs hallway.
"We can take the second largest room." Misty followed her husband with less enthusiasm.
"I like the bedroom on this floor. I'll take it." Reggie wandered to the back corner and opened the door to a huge bedroom.
"So, where am I staying?" Maely asked Bart as they ascended the stairs.
"That's a bit complicated. There are only three bedrooms. So, looks like you and I are sharing. Ours is the one right here." Bart grinned as he opened the door to the master bedroom.
"You're jokinâ, right?" Maely breezed into the room, which was a rustic, cozy space with a stone fireplace in the corner, beamed ceilings, glass doors leading to a breathtaking balcony with a view of the lake, and a giant four-poster king sized bed made of natural raw timbers.
"Nope. Not joking." Bart shoved his hands in his pockets and paced behind her.
"Oh no. This will not do at all. I'm sorry, Bart, but you cannot stay here in the same bed, in the same room as me. We hardly know each other." Maely pranced back past Bart and out the door of the bedroom. He dropped his head to his chest and followed her.
"Maely, wait a minute. Maybe we can work this out." Bart pleaded. The situation embarrassed him, and he was more than willing to make her comfortable. Heâd sleep on the couch and dream of being beside her.
"Bartholomew Babington." Blanche's voice floated up from the great room, meeting Bart and Maely on their way down the stairs.
"Mom." Bart's voice cracked, and he sped up his descent.
"I had to come to you, since you don't seem to have time for your dear old mother. Come, give me a hug." Blanche Babington held her arms out wide. She was a beautiful witch who'd stopped aging around 35. She wore her hair up on her head and dressed in stylish pants and a silk top. Nothing about Blanche was over stated.
