In the morning, he woke up alone. Percy blinked the sleep from his eyes and took stock of the room. The lights were off, but he could make out Juneyâs guitar where heâd left it last night. His notebook wasnât on the table though.
As soon as he stood up, he was reminded of what heâd done last night. Juneyâs dried cum between his legs made him feel filthyâinside and out. Shit. Shit. Shit. He rushed into the bathroom and turned the knob until it was as hot as it could go. He avoided the mirror and stepped into the large walk-in shower. It was the extra fancy type they had in their house back in Miami.
He grabbed a washcloth and roughly scrubbed himself clean, but he didnât feel any less disgusted with himself.
He cheated on his fiancé. There had been so many opportunities to stop, but he hadnât had the willpower. If Emilio had been knocking on the door, he still didnât think he couldâve stopped.
God, no.
He was mindless in Juneyâs arms, barely even conscious.
That wasnât a good enough excuse, but he didnât think anyone could understand how heâd felt last night. If they did, maybe they wouldnât condemn him for it.
Was this how every cheater felt? Like they didnât even have a choice in the matter? Maybe it was just him and his marrow-deep need to be the center of his best friendâs attention, to be possessed by him.
The more he thought about it the sicker he felt. As Juney had always said, it just wasnât right. Percy hadnât realized just how much he needed Juney and what that meant until itâd been too late. Juney had cut him off completely. Now he understood why.
This was his cross to bear now.
He shut off the water and quickly toweled himself dry. He stepped out of the bathroom with the towel around his waist and located the sweatpants heâd worn for all of five minutes last night and put them on. He stole one of Juneyâs t-shirts too. It was one heâd already claimed as his anywayâthey all were.
Anxiety was starting to swirl with the guilt that was already in his stomach. He didnât think Juney would go and do something⦠he didnât think he wouldâ¦
He couldnât even think about it. He threw the front door open and smelled cigarette smoke. Juney was sitting at the table on the porch with a pack of Marlboro reds on his thigh.
It was sad how relieved he felt. He wondered if heâd ever stop feeling like he was on the precipice of grief.
There were two untouched food trays on the table, and Percy quietly moved to sit down. The air was thick with humidity. It was already clinging to his skin, but Percy didnât mind it. The smell of wet soil and salt and all the tropical plant life relaxed him. He loved going down to the beach at dawn and dusk after a storm had blown through. It was something like relief and awe.
