As the sound of Zachâs car diminished, Chris stepped up behind Alexis, wrapping his arms around her. She relaxed into him, her backside pressing against the erection heâd been fighting since the minute sheâd emerged from his house wearing a T-shirt that clung to every curve and a pair of faded jeans that hugged her hips and thighs. Now that they were alone, he didnât hesitate to show her what she did to him.
She spun to face him and snaked her arms around his neck. Their mouths came together as though theyâd known each other forever and, at the same time, as if it was completely new. He had a feeling that he could spend his entire life getting to know all of Alexisâs intricacies.
He sipped from her lips, teasing and tasting, her body pressed against his, until she broke the kiss. He rested his forehead on hers, his breathing ragged as he struggled to control himself. He wanted Alexis in his bed, in his life, but it wasnât fair to take that step until she knew everything there was to know about him.
Now was as good a time as any.
He squeezed her tight and then settled back onto his chair, pulling Alexis onto his lap. Her ass teased his erection and he sucked in a breath, willing it to relax for a little while longer. Once heâd revealed his final secret, heâd be free to move forward with Alexis.
With the dark surrounding them, it was as though they were the only two people in the world. âRobin suggested I add the fire pit. Right now, I wish she were here so I could thank her.â
âTell me about her.â Alexisâs voice was almost a whisper, as if she was afraid to fracture the quiet.
He chuckled. âYou know how you didnât tell me right away that you had a twin sister?â
âAre you upset about that? Iâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner, it was justââ
He pressed two fingers to her lips. âI understand exactly why you didnât tell meâ¦â Damn, this shouldnât be so hard, but ever since Robin had died, he hadnât talked about her except when he was discussing her case. The pain was too much to bear otherwise. â⦠because Iâm a twin, too.â
Alexis bolted upright. âRobin was your twin?â
âI know. What are the chances? She was born three minutes after me, so I liked to tease her that she was the younger sister.â
âI did, and still do, the same with Serena.â She settled back into his lap, her head on his chest and the heat of her hand over his heart warming his entire body. Could she feel his pulse racing? Did she realize that she did that to him?
âRobin was so full of life. She was always smiling, always willing to go out of her way to help someone. I, uhâ¦â The words stuck in his throat, but it was important that he force them to his lips. âThere are some days I miss her so much that I donât think I can breathe.
