As Gabriel drove to Lance’s place after the game, he was filled with a breathless sort of anticipation he’d never experienced before. His body hurt and he was exhausted but that was all swept away by thoughts of being with Lance.

Gabriel felt vaguely guilty for not spending more time with his father after having been gone for days but Alain hadn’t seemed to notice his absence. Thankfully, there had been no issues while he was on the road.

Dr. Rusk had adjusted Alain’s medication and Lee, the new night nurse, was much better than the useless Curtis. Lee had been enthusiastic about how well the patches had worked and thankfully Alain had accepted them without fuss.

It gave Gabriel the peace of mind to be able to enjoy his evening with Lance.

He smiled at the thought of Lance as he knocked on his door, his mood immediately lifting when it swung open.

Lance’s eyes widened like he was surprised to see Gabriel there. “Hi,” he said, sounding a little breathless.

Gabriel didn’t answer with words. Instead, he stepped forward and shut the door behind him. He slipped a hand around Lance’s neck and pressed their mouths together. He’d spent the entire trip wanting more of him—aching for just one touch, one kiss, one reminder that he hadn’t imagined this connection between them.

Gabriel had never thought of himself as the type of man who could never get enough of another person but now he could think of nothing but Lance, wanted nothing but to be close to him.

“Missed you,” he whispered, surprised by the roughness in his voice.

“Missed you too,” Lance rasped, his expression filled with wide-eyed wonder.

Gabriel captured his mouth again. Lance’s mouth was minty, and Gabriel parted his lips, gently coaxing him to open more. He needed the sweet oblivion of Lance’s touch, where his mind went quiet and all he could think about was the feel of their bodies pressed together.

He ran a hand across Lance’s firm chest and on some vague, dim level of his consciousness, he wondered if he should slow down, sit and talk to Lance before they acted on this pent-up desire, but it was impossible. He was too desperate to feel Lance’s skin against his, to taste his mouth and hear his moans.

And Lance seemed as eager as he was.

As they kissed, Lance slid his hands under Gabriel’s shirt, skating his warm palms over Gabriel’s skin and making him shudder.

“Are you feeling up to this?”

Gabriel grinned. “It would take a lot more than a hard game to distract me from you right now.”

Lance smiled. “Couch?”

Gabriel nodded his agreement but he got distracted by Lance threading his fingers through his hair, tugging a little. He groaned, reaching for Lance’s hips as he slid his knee between Lance’s thighs.

Lance let out a shaky breath, his head falling back, and Gabriel took advantage of the access to his jaw and throat, pressing wet kisses along his skin. He smelled incredible, clean and fresh.

Lance was simple and uncomplicated. There was no artifice to him.
