Chapter 19

24 hours

remaining until Second Wave

“Everyone!” I screamed across the open area of Breach City. “Listen up! The aliens know I’ve been Investing. The Galastarans are coming tomorrow. Spread the message. Anyone ready to reach Tier Five needs to get here, now!”

While commotion reigned, Lune raced off to tell those she could find in the tunnels.

I shouted again. “For the next twenty-four hours, if I’m not Investing someone, then you’re all doing something wrong. I expect a constant queue!”

Malom, Genive, and Eaen were rushing over to me. I pointed to Eaen. “Can you make sure I’ve got a steady supply of easy to drain ore?”

“Sure thing, boss.” He turned and sprinted off without another word.

Genive spoke before I could give her an order. “What are we to do in regard to planning?”

“You tell me, Genive. You’re the military expert.”

“We have fifteen PCAs here. I planned to keep them all here together until we know how the Galastarans will attack if that’s okay. If they surround all five cities, then we can target the most desperate from the rear. Next, I’ve provisionally planned which Tier Fives to send where. Including those still to be Invested.”

“Sounds, good. Who’s going where?”

“I will go to Monier, I have John going to Elar, Gerry to Olea, Henk to Asta, and Eaen to Hanva. They’ll all have or I planned for them all to have around sixty… late Tier Fours with them.”

“What about Malom and Zial?” We had talked about most of the plans she was regurgitating now, but I just wanted to quickly run through everything again to solidify it all in our minds.

“Malom thinks he should remain here to protect the manufacturing facilities and continue his work. I agree. Zial is commanding the PCA fleet. He will help to protect this place until we know more.”

“Solid plan. Thanks for making sure we have one. Just one more thing that I can think of. Don’t let anyone level up until the moment we receive the notification that the Second Wave has begun. I don’t want to give the Galastarans the chance to strengthen their forces. It’s a huge jump up in power, and it’s one of the few things we have going for us.”

“Won’t they just level to match us when we go up like the Nirakaa did?”

“Honestly, Genive, I have no fucking idea, but it’s a hope and a chance, and those Nirakaa were Tier One. They only leveled to Tier Two. Think about that for a moment.”

Her eyes widened. “You’re right. In hindsight, that’s an incredibly easy jump to make. Do you think the Galastarans won’t be capable of such growth?”

“I’m guessing that they’re not. If they do strengthen, hopefully it will be in the form of reinforcements.”

She shrugged. “We can only do our best. I’ll let everyone know the plan.”

“Thank you, Genive.” I then grabbed her in a hug. “Good luck out there, and if I don’t see you again once you leave for Monier, know that I consider you… family.”

She shivered at the words.
