Easing my car into the garage, I fumble with my key fob as I shut off the engine. I've been avoiding Cassie for three days and, of course, it was for a good reason. I had to prepare my home in Huntington Woods - an bachelor pad not suitable for bringing the woman I plan to spend the rest of my life with. For the past three days, Derrick and Jessica have given me guidance on how to create the perfect home for her.

After all the hard work, what was once a dull and empty home is now fully furnished with furniture and appliances that will make Cassie comfortable when I bring her home. And if there’s anything she doesn’t like, she can change it. So far, Cassie doesn’t know much about my family or the company I’ve inherited, but I don’t plan on keeping it that way for long. Tonight, I am ready to tell Cassie how I feel and show her that she is the most important woman in my life. This is fast and crazy, but you don’t pass up a woman like this. Cassie is my forever woman; I’m not settling for anything less than a future with her.

Climbing out of my car, I head into the house through the entrance from the garage that leads directly to the kitchen. Unsurprisingly, Jessica is in an apron yet again, concocting another meal. At least it smells delicious this time; how it will taste is a different story altogether. Jessica remains determined to cook for Derrick, though I know he could care less about such things. All he wants is for Jessica to love him back, and he'll take care of the rest. His love for her resonates strongly with that of my father's for our mother―he was so obsessed with her that she couldn't even make an outing to the supermarket without being under his gaze. He saw her as his companion, his forever woman, and only now can I truly understand his passionate love for my mom. That's precisely how I feel about Cassie, and I'm certain that's what Derrick shares for Jessica too―it's dangerous almost. A fiery desire burns within me: I'd kill to keep this woman forever. In that moment, nothing else matters.

“Hey Jes,” I say, smiling fondly at the pet name. What title should I give my Cassie? Angel seems suitable. She's my angel, my all. You don't just walk into my life looking like a vision, perceiving me as if I'm not a repulsive monster. Does Cassie really think I won't keep her forever? She's become my whole world in the last week. And tonight, I'm making that obvious to her.

“Hey, Carmen. All set up. I’m sure Cassie will love the house.”

“Thanks for the pointers about blue being her favorite color.” Jessica cringes a bit.

“You didn't paint the whole place blue, did you?” I shrug. Of course, I did. I want her to bathe in her favorite color. The goal is to make the house comfortable enough for her to never want to leave.
