CHAPTER 13
Blinding pain instantly assailed David as he tried to open his eyes. âTurn off the light.â He wasnât sure why he said it out loud when he was the only one who lived there or why his voice sounded as if someone had spent an hour scraping it with sandpaper.
âThe light isnât on.â
David jumped, not expecting anyone to be in his house, much less in the room with him. But the move caused his entire world to spin like one of those tops and he found himself crumpling to the floor.
âSorry,â the voice said again. âBut my muscles hurt too much to have to pick you up again.â
What?
David would have voiced the question but his head felt as if any more sound would make it split wide open. Blind, because when heâd tried again to open his eyes, he found out that also caused tremendous amounts of pain and unable to speak, David had no way of knowing who was in the room with him, or why that person was there.
Then hands were there on his arms, helping to pull him up and get him back to the bed. âDo you need to use the bathroom?â
âMac?â David asked, his throat burning as he barely managed to get the one syllable word out.
âYes,â Mac answered. âYou were drunk last night and your friends called me.â
Well that explained...no, it didnât. Since when didnât his friends man up and take care of David themselves? Thatâs what friends do. David sure as hell had done it a hundred times for them.
The thoughts in his head were causing his headache to increase and his stomach to roll. âOh God,â he moaned, clutching his abdomen.
A bucket was pushed into his hands. âCome on. Letâs get you into the bathroom,â Mac said softly as if trying not to make too much noise, which David appreciated.
He had only just made it into the bathroom when his stomach couldnât hold on any longer. David knew he should be embarrassed to do all of this in front of Mac, but he just didnât have the energy to care.
By the time heâd finished, emptied his bladder, and by heavily leaning on Macalister made it back to his room, David was wiped out. He just barely felt his head hit the pillow when sleep blessedly took him under once more.
***
He had slept all day Thursday before managing to wake up enough to eat the piece of dry toast Macalister had made him. But as soon as heâd finished it, along with swallowing a couple of aspirin, David had fallen right back to sleep.
Every single one of Davidâs friends that had been with him the night before had called at least twice to check on him. As annoying as answering that many calls had been, Macalister had to admit it was nice to know there were so many people looking out for David.
It was Tori who had become a thorn in Macalisterâs side. She had insisted, then demanded to talk to David. When that didnât work she actually threatened Macalisterâs manhood.
