CHAPTER THIRTEEN

I wake up to a gentle caress on my cheek. I open my eyes to Cody sitting on the bed next to me. “If your going to work today it’s time for you to get up. I’m sorry I was gone so long but one of my pack members needed me. More importantly, why were you crying?” Cody asks me gently

I sit up and excuse my self to the bathroom before responding. I need a few minutes to pull myself together.

Once I’m done I head back into the bedroom. Cody is still sitting on the edge of the bed and I notice that he looks tired and his hair is disheveled, like he ran his fingers through it too many times. I walk to him and ask “What’s wrong? Is everyone ok?”

“We got everything straightened out. It’s nothing you need to worry about. I want to know why you were crying.” He questioned.

“It’s nothing. I’m just overwhelmed and still trying to process everything.” I lie

“Are you sure that’s all. I feel like your not telling me something.” He asks while tilting my chin up with a finger and looking into my eyes.

“I’m sure, that’s all. I need to get home so I can get ready.” I tell him.

I make sure I have everything and head down stairs with him following. Once we get outside I see Jamie leaning against my truck. Once she see’s me she runs to me and grabs me in a bear hug rambling so fast I can’t understand a word she says.

I turn to Cody hoping he can explain what is going on. “Alright Jamie. That’s enough. Sarah, she is going to work with you today. You will train her to cover for you. She is a fast learner. After work I will be ready for you and we will pick up where we left off.” He tells us.

“Ok.” I say with a wave and Jamie and I get in the truck to leave.

“I’m so excited we are getting a new pack female. We don’t have many our age. The few we have I’m not very close to. I think we will be great friends though.” Jamie says.

“I have to stop at my house to get ready then we will go to work.” I tell her. The rest of the drive is filled with me telling her about what to expect from work and Ally.

I walk into the coffee shop yell to Ally that I am there and need to talk. Ally comes out of the office and stops in her tracks when she Jamie. I introduce the two and Ally is still standing there, not making a sound.

“I was trying to help my cousin with the accounting side of his business but I think I messed his books up. I’m not good with all that stuff. So we came up with the idea of switching places. Sarah can help Cody and I will fill in for her here.” Jamie explains.

“Sarah, can I talk to you alone for a minute.
