CHAPTER FOURTEEN
MARCUS
I glance out the window, getting lost in the world outside. There are people walking around, talking to friends and strangers, smiling like they donât have a care in the world. Itâs hard not to envy them. I only allow myself a taste of happiness these days in small doses at a time, because I wonât be able to handle going from a hundred to zero in a matter of minutes the way I did in the past. Iâve held those same smiles before, with a future filled with hopes and promises. I press my nose into the glass, gripping onto the windowsill, suddenly feeling trapped.
âLong day already? Itâs only morning. At least wait until the afternoon before you start escaping out of windows.â
My heart skips a beat at the sound of the deep, raspy voice behind me. I donât have to turn around to spot his exhaustion. His words come out lazier and more strained than usual. Instead of moving away, I allow myself to be trapped between the glass and him. Miguel slides his fingers down my side, pressing kisses to the back of my neck.
âDidnât I say to come in the afternoon?â
âDid you? I donât recall.â His hand moves to the front of my slacks, groping my cock. âI guess I missed you too much.â
âWish I could say the same. You can stop touching me now.â
âI didnât realize the no touching ban extended to the next day.â
I shove him away, walking toward my chair. âIf you want to remain in this office, youâll stop talking.â
âSo we are doing another repeat of last night. How do you want me, precious? Kneeling beside your desk, with my hands behind my back? We can use that vibrant tie of yours to keep me restrained.â
âIâd prefer you better on the far opposite side of the room with a gag in your mouth.â
He laughs, taking a seat in the chair on the other side of my desk. Crossing his legs, he looks up at me with knitted brows. âSo tell me, exactly how do you plan to handle our current problem?â Heâs wearing another obnoxiously bright suit, making himself stick out like a sore thumb. Itâs almost like he wants everyone to know where he is at all times.
âWhich one?â
He rolls his eyes. âThe one that wants us both dead.â
âAh that one. Well Mr. Williams was kept alive long enough to contact a few of his friends, letting them know heâs alive and well. Apparently heâs supposed to meet up with two of them after they finish their last brass delivery. Carlos is waiting for them at the exact location that was disclosed in the message, and you will be coming with me to one of our other club locations.â
âIs this your way of asking me out on a date? Thereâs no need to beat around the bush at this point.â
I lean over the desk, clenching my fists. âYou wish. You will be helping me interfere with the last drop off. They plan on shooting up the whole place, the same way they did my other club.
