Chapter Thirty

The next morning Jena finished up her video calls and turned her attention to the paperwork. She couldn’t wait for this to all be over so she could enjoy her home.

It had to be over before the wedding and before she gave birth. This was old business she didn’t want to carry over. Not that she had a choice, she mused.

A twinge in her stomach made her grimace. Jena rubbed her belly.

“Should I get Autumn?” Apple asked.

“No. It was just a pain. It’s gone. She drummed her fingers on the desk and stared out the window missing Jorja … so Jena called her.

“Hello, Jena,” Jorja said warmly. “How is my beautiful fiancée?”

“Missing you,” she said. “I want you home tonight.”

“We’ll see. I have something to take care of,” Jorja told her.

“Business? Can’t you let someone else take care of it?”

“No,” she said. “It’s something I have to do myself.”

“Okay. Just come home after,” Jena ordered. “I just want to be with you.”

The silence made her tense.

“Jorja, please tell me you aren’t—”

“I’m not,” she cut in. “I just have to finish something. I want to take care of as much of this as I can before our wedding. The day is fast approaching.”

“I’m glad you’re thinking about me,” Jena murmured. “I miss you.”

“I miss you, too, gorgeous.”

“Okay, well, finish doing what you have to, so you can come home to me tonight.”

“Will do. Love you.”

“I love you, too.” Jena smiled and ended the call. She got to her feet. “Apple, do you want some tea or coffee?”

“Tea would be nice. I’ll get it.”

“No. I’ll bring it back.” She headed to the kitchen where Derren and Autumn were having what looked like coffee and talking.

Derren got to his feet. “My Queen, what can I get you?”

“My Queen.” Autumn gave her a nod.

“I’d like some tea, please, for Apple and a milkshake for me. Chocolate caramel.”

Derren gave her a smile and moved to wash up.

“Are you feeling okay?” Autumn asked. “Is the exercise too much for you along with the training?”

“No. It gives me something to take my mind off being out here,” she said.

“How are the wedding plans coming?”

“Fine,” Jena said. “We just have to do another tasting and the food will be set, but it’s not like it’s that big a deal.”

“It’s not,” Derren told her. “I can whip up a meal for fifty to seventy-five people.”

“We’re not having that many, but I was thinking of having the ceremony televised and having some kind of feast planned for those who can’t be there. Do you think the packs will be insulted?”

“By you throwing a party in the respective dens on the happy day?” he asked. “I think they’d be ecstatic to share it with you two.”

“Great. Who do I need to consult to get things put together?”

“I’ll take care of it,” he told her. “The packs are all planning to get you two gifts. Can you get Apple to handle the intake?’

“Yes.” She smiled. “Make sure you get names. I want to send each one a personal thank you.
