Flahsback

The holographic image showed Konner lying on a white bed in a sterile room. His mother, Ti’Zellor and Ja’Sanfur stood in the room around him.

“He’s coming to,” Ja’Sanfur said.

Konner’s eyes opened. He blinked several times, looking around in confusion. His mother, just as strong and beautiful as today, with less grey in her long raven locks cascading in loose, lazy curls down her shoulders.

“He looks much better now!” she said to an unseen figure.

The High King, in his dragon-scaled cloak stepped into view. The Lorian family crest glowed an azure blue on his chest. Konner looked back at his mother; he leaned forward and threw his arms around her. Shey gently placed her arms around her son in a comforting embrace.

“I’m sorry mother. I shouldn’t have touched Starfall, none of this would have happened!” he pleaded.

“It is not your fault Konner!” the unmistakable voice of Ti’Zellor rang out.

Konner released his mother and turned to face his general. Ti’Zellor stepped into frame next to Ja’Sanfur, both near the High King. Ti’Zellor turned his attention to Konner’s father.

“My son broke a law. Not even we, the house of Lorian, are above the law. You did the right thing my general,” the High King said.

Ti’Zellor bowed slightly.

“My king, it was I who sentenced him to the Training Grounds, but it behooves you to know that it was my brother, Do’Zellor, who placed him in trials that he was not ready for,” Ti’Zellor confessed.

This caught both the High King and the Queen’s attention. Shey Lorian looked over at Ja’Sanfur, worry and perplexity plagued her face.

“What does he mean that he was not ready for?” she asked.

Thei mother slowly stood up, her white garments draped eloquently on her body, slits revealing her shoulders and closed halfway down her arms.

“I am ashamed to report that Do’Zellor summoned Spinara, three of them, for the first wave. They were hard light holograms so we could deactivate them at any time we needed,” Ti’Zellor explained. “While most cadets do not face Spinara until they are fifteen, we felt that Konner could handle them, so we let that play out.”

The King looked at his son with pride; a smile slowly formed on his withered face.

“The Lorian family have always been resilient. It is no surprise that Konner was able to hold his own. He has advanced quickly and that is by no short means thanks to your training Ja’Sanfur,” their father praised.

The general nodded in acceptance of her king’s compliment.

“It was not until halfway through that we realized that the second wave, Nelaka, were not hard light holograms but rather the real thing” Ti’Zellor continued. “We tried to shut it down but by the time we could, something rather spectacular happened.”

The High King’s attention went right back to his general. Their mother moved over to her their father and stood between him and Konner where she placed a gentle hand across Konner’s shoulder. Ti’Zellor looked down at it for a moment before turning his attention back to the report of his time in the Training Grounds.
