IT WAS the first dawn I had seen in months. Of course, it wasnât really the dawn I clawed myself out of sleep for. It was the sight of Ben lying naked beside me, hair tousled, sleep-warm, softly snoring into my pillow. Not his pillow, mind you. Mine. Thatâs what pulled me awake.
His arm lay across my chest, pinning me to the bed as if even in sleep he didnât want to let me go. I liked that. I liked it a lot. I also liked the fact that the hair on his forearm tickled my chin. By tilting my head down just a wee little bit, I could press my lips to his silky, bulging bicep, and not only taste his skin yet again, but also better to breathe in his scent. I really liked that.
What I didnât like was the fact that the man snored like a fucking locomotive. But hell, nobodyâs perfect.
With or without his snore, Ben Moss was no doubt the sexiest man I had ever bedded. Even now I blushed, remembering the night we had shared. Were still sharing.
Fighting the urge to squirm down under the sheets and sample his juices again, I thought of everything he had told me. About the stolen money. About Captain Blue Eyes. The whole thing was ridiculous. Wasnât it? That all that money could still lie hidden inside the Belladonna Arms? Arthur had searched. Ben was searching now. Probably other people had searched over the years. Surely if there was three hundred thousand dollars laying around the place, someone would have found it by now.
Yet somehow even the thought of buried treasure (God, that sounded corny) was not as mind-boggling to me as the realization that I was lying there in Benâs arms. And that he was the one who had lured me there.
Ben stirred, scooping me closer as he mumbled something in his sleep. His mouth came to rest on my arm. I could feel the heat of his breath as he snorted against my skin, and the moment I did, my dick sprang awake. Benâs dick was already awake. I could feel it when he flopped his leg over mine and pressed it into my hip, still snoring like a buzz saw. Jeez, I should wake up at dawn more often.
I thought of the dinner he had arranged for us the night before. All the trouble he had gone to. No one had ever done anything as romantic as that for me. Not in my twenty-six years on the planet. There was something about Ben in his more sincere moments that stripped the breath from my lungs. He seemed to truly be infatuated with me. But how could that be? Look at the guy! He was stunning. And look at me. I was a midget next to him. A midget in a kilt, no less. Closing my eyes, I remembered his hands on my body the night before. So gentle. So driven. And I remembered my own hands exploring him.
