BEE

The pack have their arms around me, a safety net, a cocoon, but I’m still shaking with fear. I can’t think straight. I still can’t come to grips with what just happened.

I spent days—and nights—thinking about the dirty deeds I did with James, Nate and Kade and feeling in turns horrible and wonderful, ashamed and excited.

And aroused.

So aroused, holy crap. I never thought I’d be craving someone, or someones, so badly, that the thought of being around them would be both exciting and heart-warming.

But then I’d start wondering what it means that they made out with me and then vanished without another word.

What it means that Jae never showed up.

Wondering if this is it, what I had been afraid of all along, that they’d break my heart, that I let myself be bared and used, and that I’d start feeling things and they won’t.

But my fears should have been centered around other things. Like my asshole ex. I should have trusted my gut telling me I had to keep looking over my shoulder, never lowering my guard.

Expecting Craig to get me.

“You need to talk to the police about him,” Nate says. “Report him and get a restraining order right the fuck now.”

I nod. “I just hadn’t been sure he’d do it, that he’d follow up on his threat.”

“He threatened to follow you?”

“Yeah. I’d hoped he wasn’t serious about it.” I’m still shaking. “I mean, to come all this way…”

“He’s a fucking psycho,” Nate says, his voice like steel. “Want to talk about it? About this… man. And what happened with him back home.”

He seems to have trouble calling Craig a man and after what happened, I don’t blame him.

“In your own time, sweetheart,” James says, his arms warm around me. “We’ll be here.”

“Will you?” I blurt out, then cover my mouth with my hand and swallow a sob because what the hell am I doing?

It’s just that the need to have them stay and hold my hand is so tempting I don’t know how to resist begging for it.

“Yeah,” James says. “We will. Now tell us what happened.”

“He tracked me down,” I whisper. “Somehow. Maybe he had a friend of a friend ask my parents where I’m staying. My parents… they don’t really know what happened.”

“And what did happen?” Kade asks, his voice sharp with an edge of danger. “What has he done to you, that asshole? Is this why you came to the city? Was he after you?”

I put my hands over my face. Talk to them, I tell myself. They’re nice people. It may be complicated, given that you did climb them like a tree after all and lost your heart to them, but they’re trying to help.

And yet the words won’t come.

“There is no rush,” James says again and there’s a deep purr in his voice that calms me down even as he pulls back a little, giving me some space. “But we want to know and we want to help.”

“What he said,” Nate says. “Bee, will
