The two were back in town. They had nearly searched every square inch of the main village, and were headed south, in the general direction that they thought Joey would have been going given what they had seen in the video and the path of carnage he had been leaving behind.
However, as they did that, they drove by a gas station that had yellow tape up. A few cops were there, and the pumps were closed.
âWonder what the hell happened there,â Josh said.
âI think that fuckin coon got some more people,â Mario said.
âDammit Joey.â
âKeep heading south,â he said. âI want to check the trailer parks next.â
âAye aye, captain,â Josh said, taking a turn after they passed the gas station.
Britney and Heather rode in the same car on their way to the home opener. Britney was in her cheerleading outfit, which was stark white, looking like it was made from the finest snow. On the shirt was an orange LO for Little Oak. She also smelled strongly of cotton candy perfume, which was so fragrant and offensive that Heather had her window rolled down. She considered smoking a cigarette just to cleanse her nasal pallet.
âSo are you gonna sit next to Seth?â Britney asked. âOr are you gonna be chicken shit about it.â
âI ainât sucking his dick,â she said.
âI didnât ask if you were going to do that,â Britney said.
âIâm probably gonna be chicken shit,â Heather said.
âWhy? Whatâs the worst thing that can happen?â
âHe turns me down and Iâm embarrassed for the rest of my life?â
âBabe, youâre hot. Any guy would be an idiot if they turned you down. Also, itâs just sitting next to him. Youâre acting like itâs an actual date. Heâs not even aware itâs going to happen.â
âMaybe I donât want to sit next to him,â Heather said, twirling a lock of her hair.
âWhy wonât you want to sit next to him?â
Heather didnât have an answer.
âDonât be a pussy,â she said. âBeing a pussy is for guys.â
âWhat if heâs not at the game?â
âHeâs going to be there. Everyone will be there. Itâs the biggest event our littleass town puts on.â
âWhat if heâs with his friends?â
âShow some confidence then,â she said. âPut yourself in there. Besides, Iâm sure his friends wouldnât mind having a hot piece of ass like you joining them.â
âYou call me a hot piece of ass more than guys do,â Heather said. Britney then proceeded to take a turn way faster than she should have, causing Heather to put her foot on the dashboard and her hand on the grab handle.
âHow many guys have called you that?â
âNone.â
âReally?â
âYeah,â Heather said. Even though it was gross and sexist when guys would say things like that to girls, Heather couldnât help but feel a bit left out that it never happened to her. All the time was one thing, but she wished that at least one guy would say it.
âFine,â Britney said. âDonât go sit next to him. But donât cry when you donât have a date to Homecoming. Or Sadies Hawkins.
