Chapter 11

It was one day before Loy Krathong festival. Augustus originally planned to spend the day exploring the street art trail in Bangkok. According to some websites, there were various locations that displayed oversized street paintings and art. Augustus also wanted to visit some of the museums. However, Simon surprised Augustus by calling him up at the insane hour of six o’clock in the morning. In Augustus’s opinion, mentally stable tourists on holiday should never wake up before seven o’clock.

“Hey, Simon. Do you know what time it is now?”

Augustus was aware that he sounded rather annoyed, but he didn’t bother to conceal his emotion. Simon should have waited for another hour before waking Augustus up.

“Uh, six?”

“Precisely! If this wasn’t an emergency, I would kick your sexy ass. I mean it.”

Simon chuckled. “It’s not an emergency.”

Augustus groaned. “Then why must you—”

“I forgot that Anthony had reserved a private car prior to my arrival in Bangkok to take me to Ayutthaya today.”

Augustus was instantly awake. “Anthony?”

“My personal assistant.”

Augustus felt strangely relieved. “Oh, okay. What does your trip to Ayutthaya has to do with me?”

“Can you accompany me?”

“But—”

“Please,” Simon interrupted. “I want you to. Going to Ayutthaya isn’t going to be fun without you by my side.”

Augustus was pleased to hear that. “Sure. What time will the car fetch you from your hotel?”

“Half past seven.”

“All right. I’ll get ready now.”

“Great. See you soon, man.”

“Later.”

Augustus quickly got up before rushing to the bathroom. He showered and dressed in less than twenty minutes. After that, he ordered a car. He managed to reach Augustus’s hotel at ten minutes past seven. The early morning traffic in Bangkok was horrendous. Most of the locals must be either on their way to work or school. Simon was standing in the garden when Augustus got to the villa, and he was holding a cup of steaming hot coffee that smelled heavenly. Augustus briefly hugged Simon before gratefully accepting the cup of coffee. He let out a satisfied moan after one sip. The coffee tasted amazingly delicious.

“Fuck me!”

Simon’s eyes widened. “What?”

Augustus was mortified. He hadn’t intended to blurt that out loud.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that, but the coffee was just so, so good.”

“I can make you feel even better.”

Augustus snorted. “Nice try, but no.”

Simon chortled. “Maybe I should bribe you with coffee all the time.”

“You should do that.”

Augustus and Simon burst out laughing almost simultaneously. Augustus was deeply moved when Simon led him toward the dining area. There were a few sandwiches on the table, and since Augustus hadn’t eaten anything for breakfast, he was starving. He and Simon enjoyed the sandwiches while discussing their itinerary in Ayutthaya. The car arrived just as Augustus and Simon were done with their sandwiches and coffee.

Augustus was astounded upon seeing the car. It was a Rolls Royce. Augustus had never ridden in one of those before. Aside from the driver, there was a tour guide who would explain things to Augustus and Simon in English when they were making their way from one spot to another.
