Chapter Seventeen

Ellie didn’t allow herself to think of a single reason why this was a bad idea. In fact, she told herself repeatedly that it was the only thing that made sense. But she didn’t want to assume Hayden was playing the same game with herself. “You still good?”

Hayden smirked. “Abso-fucking-lutely.” She grabbed Ellie by the front of her jacket and pulled her in, claiming her lips. Ellie’s hands went to Hayden’s hips, holding her close. The gentleness they’d been ensconced in outside made way for raw passion as their hips began to move slowly together.

Hayden reached into Ellie’s hair. She broke their kiss just long enough to whisper, “I’ve wanted to run my fingers through your hair since the first time I saw you.” When their lips met again, Hayden’s tongue brushed Ellie’s, and she was frantic to find skin beneath Hayden’s clothes. She finally found the bottom of Hayden’s sweater and yanked it over her head.

Lips free momentarily again, Ellie said, “So this hasn’t just been one-sided the entire time? I thought I might have been imagining things.” Perhaps Hayden wore sexy lingerie all the time, or maybe she had a premonition about ending up topless that evening, but the nearly translucent black bra sent every drop of available liquid in her body to the juncture between her thighs. The dark nipples silhouetted behind the lace drew Ellie in like a bee to the sweetest flower in the garden.

“Are you kidding?”

“What?” Ellie was so taken by the need to draw those gorgeous nipples into her mouth that she hadn’t a clue what Hayden was talking about.

The corner of Hayden’s mouth turned up. “You’re adorable.” She wagged her finger between them. “You thought this was one-sided? Even for a second.”

“Oh, uh, yes. I mean, I wasn’t sure.” Ellie’s brain felt like she was trying to get through a maze. “You seemed interested, but you pulled away. I thought I must be misinterpreting your body language.”

Hayden chuckled. “I just…I only do this with people I don’t know. And only once. I didn’t want to hurt you because I know that isn’t your style, so I tried to stay remote, but holy fucking hell, you’d look at me like you’re looking at me now, and I forgot the reasons it was a bad idea. Until I remembered again.”

Ellie’s heart was racing, afraid Hayden was going to pull away again. “Well, thank goodness we figured that out, but”—she held up her index finger—“one, I’m only looking for this exact second.” She lifted her middle finger. “And two, this is a good idea. We’re going to get it out of our systems so we can go back to being friends. Right?”

Hayden’s eyes darkened. “Fuck yeah.” And she yanked Ellie’s jacket and Henley shirt over her head, and her nimble fingers were at the button of Ellie’s jeans. Hayden pushed until the back of Ellie’s knees hit the mattress, and she tumbled onto it.

Hayden stood over her for 2.3 seconds until she grabbed Ellie’s socks, along with the bottoms of her jeans, and pulled them off.
