Dear Ali —

My turn to be sorry for not writing sooner. Big papers due, all the rallyeing catching up with me. I got to know the Adirondacks and Green Mountains much too well. Dickie and I had a good laugh at the account of your intrepidity. I hope the money thing worked out; I’d hate to think you couldn’t afford postage.

I can’t stop thinking, though: How did you ever agree to go out with this guy? I mean, if I were a poor student with my tongue hanging out and tried to pick you up at the Met, all I’d really need was a sharp suit and a little French?
