“Roxanne,” I said, glancing around again. “This really is a new wing? I don’t recall Haven having facilities like this.”

“These facilities are new,” Roxanne said with a short nod. “Thanks to your friend here, you are currently resting in the new Montague Wing for Special Needs Patients.”

Bynnah gave me a ‘told you so’ look and stepped to the side as Director DeMarco, Haven’s Chief Director, looked at my chart.

Haven Medical, located on 1st Avenue between 37th and 38th Streets, was the primary supernatural medical facility in the city, if not the entire East Coast.

The massive complex, which sprawled an entire city block, housed a hospital for both supernatural and normals. The other side of the property held a supernatural maximum detention center, where some of the most dangerous supernaturals were incarcerated.

Roxanne DeMarco was one of the directors of the facility. She oversaw departments in both the medical and detention centers, and led the general pathology department.

I knew she was a sorceress—a powerful one. She knew about the DAMNED and the nexus points. She had to—because buried deep beneath the detention center building, rested a nexus point.

The fact that the detention center rested on top of one of the nexus points, NP-13 to be precise, meant that it was going to attract plenty of attention—some of it large and lethal. Whoever thought of using a nexus point to neutralize and nullify dangerous supernaturals was both ingenious and insane.

The construction of the detention center over the nexus point acted as an amplified null transmitter. Any supernatural incarcerated at Haven Detention, suddenly found their abilities and powers greatly diminished, in many cases, to the point of non-existence.

If NP-13 ever destabilized, catastrophic wouldn’t even begin to describe it. Apocalyptic would probably be more appropriate. This was the point that was investigated some time back when Haven was attacked.

The Oracle for this nexus point was located several sub-levels below the detention center and hadn’t suffered any major damage. The sub-level it was on had recently been reinforced to make sure it stayed that way.

“I heard there had been an attack here. I didn’t realize it was that extensive.”

“We’ve had some large scale renovations due to increased activity in the city,” Roxanne said. “Thankfully, nothing on the other levels.”

“Maybe you can keep the destructive duo from paying you a visit for a while—say a century or two?”

“Not likely. Tristan likes to visit when he can. Or when he doesn’t have a choice.”

“That explains the name of the wing. Was he feeling guilty?”

“He was feeling responsible—which he was—partly,” Roxanne answered, without looking up from my chart. “He also wanted to replace the damaged equipment.”

“They recently did a bang up job on Gracie Mansion. Emphasis on the bang.”

“Was that them?” Roxanne asked. “Those three seem to attract chaos wherever they go.”

“No kidding. They should change their name to Montague and Strong Demolitions.”

“Isn’t that what the ‘D’ in DAMNED stands for—destruction?”

“No,” I corrected, quickly. “It’s for Decons, not destruction.”

“You may want to consider a change, if the reports of
