Chapter 14

James

I hated to do it…but there was no way around it.

Kissing the side of his neck to wake him up, I chuckled as he burrowed further under the covers and hid his face against my chest. “I have to go to work, baby.”

I wasn’t sure if it was the words or the reminder that he was here with me, but something had his head popping up like he was jumping out of the toaster. It took a few seconds for his wide eyes to focus on my face and go back to a more normal size.

Looking around, he finally settled back on me. “You’re here.”

“No, I think the right way to say it is that you’re here.” I thought I was being funny, but he nodded seriously.

“Yes, I’m here.” I saw the moment his brain came back online a bit more. He froze and looked down at my chest. “Wait. I’m here.”

Another second passed before the rest of his brain cells started firing. “Oh.”

“Yes, not a dream.” Since he clearly wasn’t a morning person, I pulled him back in my arms so he couldn’t start overthinking things. “Good morning, baby.”

He was stiff for a split second before he melted into me. He looked up and I got a bashful smile as he relaxed. He must’ve felt bold because he rocked closer and gave me a quick kiss. “Good morning.”

I made a tsking sound and gave him a mock frown. “Is that how I want to hear it?”

He giggled as his cheeks turned a cute pink. “No.”

When I huffed, he giggled again. Giving me another kiss, he grinned ear to ear. “Good morning, Daddy.”

“See.” I kissed his nose as I held him tighter now that I knew he wasn’t going to panic. “Was that so hard?”

He nodded dramatically. “Very. I deserve a reward.”

Laughing, I dug my fingers into his sides making him laugh and squirm. “Daddy…I’m…I have to…”

Taking the hint, I stopped tormenting him and gave him a quick kiss. “Then you have about five seconds to jump out of bed and have privacy before I come in there and start getting ready for the day. I don’t mind helping my boy.”

He blinked as he took in the statement, either intrigued or shocked…it was hard to tell.

“Daddy.” His tone said both, but he scrambled off the bed, all elbows and knees as he dashed naked for the bathroom.

Laughing, I gave him a few seconds’ head start before I got out of bed and followed him, just slow enough that I wasn’t going to walk in when he was pissing.

When I finally made it to the bathroom, he was washing his hands and blushing. As I grinned, he stuck his tongue out at me. “You did that so I wouldn’t freak out over waking up here.”

“Guilty as charged.” I gave his ass a pat as I walked past him and toward the small toilet room. “Love tap.”

As he tried to pout, I called out, “And it worked, didn’t it?”

He huffed, but as he went back into the bedroom, I could hear him giggling.
