Chapter 14

Amelia

It’s been a week since the AA meeting, and every day that has passed, I’ve finished off a bottle of alcohol. Whether it was red or white wine, scotch or whiskey. I just needed to drown my sorrows. After hearing about Jaydin’s family, it brought back too many memories… some that I would rather forget.

I’m sitting at home, slowly fading into being drunk, and I hear the front door open. Shit. It’s Shaylie.

“Amelia!” I bet she’s taken one look at the kitchen counter… at all the empty bottles of alcohol. This isn’t going to be pretty.

“Mmm bad week,” I mumble to her.

“What have you done?” She moves the bottles and counts them.

“Sorry.” But I know I’m actually not.

“That’s it. I’m going to pack you a bag and I’m taking you back to rehab. This can’t keep happening, Amelia. I don’t know what to do with you.” She heads off into my room and gathers a bag together.

She comes back with the duffle in hand.

“Get off that sorry ass couch and get in the car.” She is waiting by the door.

“We can’t be leaving now.” I take another sip of the bottle of whatever I’m drinking. Numb to the fact that Shaylie is now dragging me out by my arm.

“Oh yes, we are. I am not losing you.” I get pushed into the car, I look down at my hands and the bottle is gone. She takes it from me and throws it into the trash can.

“I was drinking that!” I frown at the wasted liquor.

“I don’t want to hear another word from you tonight, Amelia. God, you have made me so angry.” I can feel the tension building between us. If I don’t think about my next words, I could lose Shaylie… for good.

“I’m sorry, but I needed it.” Damn it.

She looks over to me, and then I know I’ve fucked it up.

We continue to drive to the rehab centre, and before I even know it, we arrive.

I must have fallen asleep to make the ride go quicker, and now I’m more sober then when I got into the car.

“Get out,” Shaylie orders me.

I exit the car and she hands me my bag. I’m not sure what clothes she packed; at this point I don’t really care.

“I’ll be in touch with the coordinator.” She gets back in the car and drives off.

Wow.

I walk up the steps to the centre and a woman greets me. I remember her from last time, she is new and her name is Mailey.

“It’s good to see you again, Amelia. I’m glad you came back, follow me to your room.” I think it’s like ten o’clock at night, so no one should be really up. I walk past the main gathering room, the kitchen, and we walk down the hallway to the bedrooms. Most of the rooms are full but there is mine. Still the same room I use, I wonder if any other patients use it while I’m not here.

“Have a good sleep tonight, Amelia.
