Chapter Eleven
I awoke to the sound of voices outside my tent. I blinked and tried to wake up before I rolled off the air mattress. After I threw on a T-shirt and a pair of shorts, I stumbled to the front of the tent and peeked my head out. It was an overcast, gray, and dreary day, but I perked up slightly when Dorian handed me a cup of coffee and greeted me, âGood morning.â
âGood morning,â I responded as I found it hard to wake up. I squirmed the rest of the way out of my tent and sat in a camping chair, sipped my java, and watched a mix of women surrounding Dorian, who held her phone in her hand. They were all staring at it, and I asked, âAre there naked ladies on that phone or something? Iâve never seen anyone stare at a phone so intensely.â
âWeâre looking for the nearest campground thatâll let us drink,â Dorian answered.
âAre we going home?â one girl asked.
Dorian, who was in control of the phone and the map on it, vehemently said, âHell no, weâre not going home! We didnât travel all this way to go right back home.â She put her nose back down and studied whatever it was they were looking at on the screen.
While they all debated where we should move this party, I heard the tent in front of my chair unzip. Danielle crawled out, hair in a ponytail as always, and went right for the coffeepot. She was still sleepy, and this baffled me because she was such an early riser. It was eight oâclock and way past her usual rise-and-shine hour. Must have been all the sex.
After she fixed herself a cup of coffee, she plopped down in the chair next to me. She never made eye contact and took a sip from her cup. âGood morning.â
âMorninâ,â I left out the good part because I was still mad at her. She didnât have to fuck her fiancée right next to me. For crying out loud, they may as well have been in bed with me. I would say that maybe she didnât have a choice, but that was ridiculous to suggest. Of course, she could have said no, but she didnât, and she knew I was only inches from them. I really didnât need to hear that shit. I was the one who didnât have a choice.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes before she asked, âAre you mad at me or something?â
I glared at her just as I had the night before. âWas it good?â I asked. She sucked in the side of her cheek, looked at me with pure disgust, and got up to walk away. I let her. I wasnât going to chase her. I had done plenty of that through the years. I was done. If she wanted me, she could come get me. I watched as she walked down the trail in the direction of the restrooms.
In the meantime, Cece and Sherri meandered over to our site.
