Valentin

Valentin Morozov was in the process of living out his own dreams. His fascination with death and serial killers had fuelled his own desires to end somebody else’s life and once he had experienced the post-kill buzz, he craved more of the same. Now, he was fulfilling that desire, and the feeling of adrenaline coursing through his body was unlike anything he had ever felt before.

He was on the balcony of his penthouse apartment in the affluent Borough of Greenwich, sipping a glass of red wine and looking out at a riverboat that was sailing past on the murky waters of the Thames. Across the water he could see the high-rise buildings of Canary Wharf, the place where he earnt his living doing the kind of highly-paid work that had allowed him to buy this property and enjoy such a view. But his mind wasn’t on the different sights of London that he could see from here. Instead, his mind was on the woman in his apartment behind him who was lying in his walk-in shower as her blood trickled down his plughole.

Valentin finished his glass of wine and stepped back through the sliding French doors that separated his plush lounge area from the tiled balcony outside. As he moved across the Persian rug on the floor in front of his 60” flatscreen TV, he thought about what he would do next. At that moment, there were two options crossing his mind. One of them was to deal with the dead body in his bathroom. The other was to pour himself another glass of wine and enjoy the feeling of what he had just done a little more.

In the end it was an easy decision.

He walked into the kitchen and went straight for the open bottle of Chateau that was sitting on the marble worktop. As he poured its rich red contents into a sparklingly clear glass, he savoured the feeling that came with the knowledge that he had just ended a second person’s life. His first kill had been Olivia, the young auburn-haired woman who he had seen enough times during his commute into the office to pick out as a worthy first target. He had strangled her in her very own apartment after following her home one evening earlier in the summer and the thrill he experienced had been enough to confirm that this was a deed to be repeated on a more regular basis.

Now he had just claimed the life of his second victim but the difference between each of the deaths couldn’t have been starker. Whereas he had been inexperienced and over-eager when he had killed Olivia, he had exercised much more caution and control with this next kill. Now he was reaping his reward because instead of rushing away from the scene of the crime like he had done when he had left Olivia’s apartment, he was now standing in his own kitchen, enjoying a relaxing glass of wine.

As the smooth red liquid slid down
