Sophie started to shade her sketch, she’d done the outline of her family picture but there was still a lot of work to do. Taking the photo out of her bag she studied it closely. She looked into her dad’s eyes, the same warm eyes that she remembered and she shed a tear. She felt it roll down her cheek and leave a cold damp trail. Why did he have to die? she asked herself. Still feeling an incredible bond with him even in his death, she knew the time to let go would have to come. Hugging the picture, she realised she wasn’t ready yet. Still owning things of his like his scarf which still bore his smell made it hard to believe he was really dead. The word dead sent a shiver through her body and filled her with fear. It was such a final word. Dead; no more; the end. This unpredictable uncontrollable event, but he was dead. Shivering she put the sketch book down, concentration was proving hard. She placed the photo in her pocket to keep her dad close to her. Lying down, she allowed happy memories of her dad to come into her mind before she drifted into a deep sleep.
