POINT OF NO RETURN
It becomes clear that what the MC must do is almost impossible, takes super-human courage, and depends on him having truly overcome his character weakness. The danger will be incredible, and he decides to risk it all.
He may burn his boats, make arrangements for a successor in the case of his death, swear a formal oath to the cause. This is still part of the Initiation in the Hero’s Journey model.
In the Character Arc structure, the MC is tempted to resort to his old ways, giving in to his habitual character weakness, but he stays strong.
