WORDS THAT CAN BE CONVERTED TO CONTRACTIONS
Convert words to contractions every chance you have when writing dialog. Each instance reduces word count by 1.
For example, if you write this sentence: I am terribly sorry, you can save 1 word by changing I am to Iâm. This makes dialog smoother and more natural-sounding.
Here are some examples of contractions:
Iâm replaces I am.
Sheâll replaces She will.
Itâd replaces It would.
Weâre replaces We are.
Youâre replaces You are.
Iâd promised Susan I wouldnât gamble. replaces I had promised Susan I would not gamble.
âIâm going home.â replaces âI am going home.â
âThe Brownsâll arrive soon.â replaces âThe Browns will arrive soon.â
âHeâs gonna shoot.â replaces âHe is gonna shoot.â
Q43: Rewrite this sentence by changing whatever you can to contractions. I will see you when I get there, but you will have to make sure you are on time.
