Chapter Four

Dahy was sent home the next day and now there was a cop car outside their apartment. Liam didn’t like it one bit, but this stalker had gone past just being a sick fuck to attempting murder. He had no doubt of the plans this bastard had for Sade if he got his hands on her. He had done a six-month stint with the FBI so as to complete his forensic pathology degree. He saw some things that still made his stomach turn. The sickness of the human mind was staggering. There was no way in hell he or Dahy would allow anything to happen to Sade. He’d stake both their lives on it because to get to her, the bastard would have to go through them.

“Damn it, Sade, you’re killing me here,” Dahy’s voice sounded from the bedroom. There was frustration, affection and mild humor in his voice.

“Just let me change the bandage on your head,” Sade said. “I’ll give you ice cream if you’re good.”

“What am I, two?” Dahy asked.

“What flavor do you want?” Sade asked ignoring his question.

“Vanilla with chocolate fudge swirl,” Dahy said. “Like what we’ll be doing with you when I get out of this bed.”

“Okay, you perv, making ice cream naughty. But you don’t have to get out of bed to do that.” Sade laughed.

Sade had been fussing over him since he stepped through the door. He was in bed, even though Liam knew Dahy would prefer to be in the living room in front of the TV watching college football on a Saturday afternoon. There was a TV in the bedroom but it wasn’t turned on. That told Liam the hardheaded Irishman whom he called his best friend was enjoying the attention from Sade even though he wasn’t acting like it.

He was reviewing security discs from the Silver Note in the office he and Dahy had set up. Together they ran a security firm on the side, and after they retired from the NYPD, they’d have a nice business to merge right into. So far it was very lucrative and they had some cops who worked for them on their days off. At the moment, there was nothing pending that he had to deal with, so he was looking back over anything that might help in Sade’s case. He was lucky Loraine never erased her security discs. He was reviewing discs from two weeks before the initial stalker contacted Sade. Liam was looking at the crowd carefully, over and over again, for the smallest of details. Someone who walks out in frustration, someone sitting too close to the stage and enraptured by Sade. Working with the FBI taught him one thing: The smallest things mattered, and as he went through each disc he wrote down notes about what he found in that disc in his notebook.

“Liam, do you want some lunch? You’ve been in here an awful long time.” Sade poked her head around the door.

“Are you done pampering Dahy?” Liam said without looking up.
