CHAPTER FIVE

THE POWER BROKERS

IN AFRICA

It is very important to note that Africa will forever remain Africa, it is even imperative to understand that the destiny of Africa is lying in the hands of Africans. It is very important for us to know that we cannot solve the problems of Africa without involving ourselves in the discussion that concerns us, we must involve ourselves in the school of discipline so as to ensure that correction is made. We must tell ourselves the truth about the past, because without us knowing much about our past in the areas we have erred and the areas we have done well, correction cannot be possible. The power brokers in Africa will have to accept the fact that they have failed the people and disappointed themselves. The power brokers in Africa must know that Africa is for Africans, not for them alone. They must know that we are special people that lack good governance, Africans are good people that lack good managers. Africans are good people blessed by God, and the power brokers subject them to suffering because of the interest of the few that surpasses that of majority Africans. The power brokers must know that for us to live for one another there must be changes in whatever we do. They must understand that there are global changes in governance meaning that fathers must allow their children to grow and take over leadership to bring about the realities of future hope. Any man who has children that cannot take over from him will suffer to his grave.

The power brokers in Africa are the problems of Africa, because they do not believe in global change, they do not believe in retirement, they do not believe that their time is over, that now they have to sit like fathers and see their children run around for them to make them happy. Africa power brokers don’t believe that old age is a total blessing from God, they do not believe that the joy of a man is to see his children grow before him and start working to take good care of his old age, for that is my prayer as a father, I want to see my children grow and take over governance from me, to take good care of my old age, such will make me a fulfilled father. I want to see the Africans of tomorrow becoming good future leaders that will take over from us and continue from where we will stop. These power brokers lack what I call sustainable trust for themselves and for the youths of Africa, they do not trust themselves and will never trust the youths due to what I call ‘ills of the past’ that is reporting itself daily, making every one a suspect.

What are ills of the past?

In the days of colonialism, people were forced to believe in unrealistic unity, oneness and understanding. But all these were to favour the interest of the sacred cows in the merger.
