AND A VERY GRACEFUL FINISH. Note the diving mask. The performers don’t use them anymore; they prefer the natural look of bare faces. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says the spring discharges from the bottom of a deep cone-shaped dip. The depth to the center of the bowl is nearly 50 feet. The pool in these images is 160 feet east to west and 210 feet north to south. The center bottom is bare limestone, but the pool edges are not rocky. The very clear water has a pleasant light greenish-blue cast, with water bubbling a bit in the center. The basin bottom is covered with slippery algae, and there are some grasses growing in the pool. There’s an abundance of various fish and aquatic turtles, any of whom might appear in a cameo or even a starring role in a given performance.
