In 2017, the cavum cloud, also called a fallstreak hole or “hole punch” cloud, was among a batch of new cloud forms added to the International Cloud Atlas. These features typically appear in clouds formed of super-cooled water droplets. Most are circular, but elongated fallstreak clouds can be formed by passing aircraft. This one was photographed over Ann Arbor, Michigan, in November 2016. Credit 54
