Moving your body moves the sugar.[xxxiii]
Dr. Joseph Mercola says, âInactivity is the primary risk factor for insulin resistance.â[xxxiv] If that doesnât get you moving, I donât know what will. After I read that, I definitely upped my game on moving my body.
Find the Joy
A necessary key to moving your body daily is discovering the joy in the practice. Whatever type of movement you choose, infusing it with playful anticipation and delight will make moving your body easier. Experiment to find what suits you best, and refrain from comparing yourself to others. Everybody is at a different place on the body-movement continuum; do what is unique to your character, fitness level, and joy meter.
There is no exercise you should be doing other than the one that brings you joy. Get creative, and make it happen. Walk while listening to music, a podcast, or an audio book; youâll be amazed at how quickly time seems to pass. Turn up your favorite songs and dance yourself silly in the comfort of your home. Splash like a child discovering water for the first time in a nearby lake, ocean, river, reservoir, or pool.
Keep it simple, and accept moving your body as a mandatory activity every day.
You are not alone if you need support in this area. Walk with a friend or family member, join a walking or hiking group in your community, work out at a gym or YMCA, or move and groove to a yoga or dance DVD at home.
No excuses: get moving.
