Colon Troubles

For Grandma Coyote’s grumpy colon remedy, simmer two tablespoons of equal portions of bayberry bark, goldenseal, and peppermint in four cups of water. Cook for fifteen minutes, let steep for five minutes more. Drink two cups a day for two days. Repeat if necessary.

Cramps

Brew a strong mixture (two tablespoons of herbs in two cups of water) of equal parts blue cohosh, thyme, pennyroyal, and fennel. Drink it hot. Then take a hot bath with a mixture of one-quarter cup of lavender or lilac flowers dried or fresh, one-quarter cup of rose petals, and one-half cup of sesame oil. Put a cool rag over your forehead. If it is still necessary, place a heating pad over the painful area. If serious cramps are a monthly occurence rest whenever possible during the first day or two of your moon time. (Note: Pregnant women should not use pennyroyal.)

An alternative mixture for cramps and other female problems is to simmer in six cups of water three tablespoons of an equal mixture of dandelion root, rosemary, slippery elm, black cohosh, parsley, and red sage for twenty minutes. Drink one to three cups daily. Save the remains and reheat when needed. (See Ovarian Problems.)
