SEVENTEEN
Wesley couldnât wipe the grin off his face as he drove toward Shannonâs house. He knew that he and the boys would have a good time today, and he couldnât wait to see the look on Shannonâs face when they returned home from their excursion. Heâd made sure to bring along his camera so he could share the special moments with her at a later time.
As soon as he drove up, Jaycee and Brighton shot out of the house. Shannon tagged behind them with Melanie in her arms. She walked up to the driverâs side window as the boys piled in the truck.
âI think if they had to wait another minute, they would burst,â Shannon said. He loved her smile.
âI might be just as excited as they are.â Wesley grinned in return.
âJaycee, grab your booster out of the car first.â
âAh, I hate that thing. I want to ride in the truck like a big person.â
She held up her hands and shrugged. âSorry.â
âItâs the law,â Wesley added. âYou donât want me to get a ticket, do you?â
âNo, I guess not,â Jaycee grumbled, but retrieved his seat anyway.
âItâll be worth it. I promise.â Wesley said the words to Jaycee, but he winked at Shannon.
âJust what do you have planned for today?â Shannonâs lips twisted.
âNope. Thatâs top-secret information.â Wesley teased. âYouâll find out soon enough.â
âWell, you three have fun, then.â Shannon waved to the boys.
He wasnât about to leave without giving her a kiss. He leaned out the window and briefly kissed her lips. âIâll miss you.â
The boys waved goodbye to their sister as Wesley backed up out of the driveway.
Brighton turned to Wesley once they were on the road. âWhat are we doing?â
âFirst, weâre going to go find something special for your sister for Christmas. I need you two to help me pick something out. Then after that, I figured weâd go get some pizza.â
âPizza!â Both boys whooped and hollered.
Apparently, that had been a good choice for their meal. He planned to let them play some of the games at the kidsâ pizza place too, but heâd keep that part a surprise.
âAnd then I have another surprise. But we canât go there until last.â
âFor reals?â Jaycee bounced. âWhere? Where?â
Wesley shook his head. âNot telling. Youâre gonna have to wait.â
He clapped his hands together. âThis is gonna be the best day ever! Huh, Brighton?â
Brighton shrugged. âI guess.â
~
âThis is fun! Thank you for bringing us here. And for getting something special for my sister.â Brighton slipped a token into a game of skeet ball, between Jaycee and Wesley.
âYeah, itâs super cool! Thank you, Wesley! I think you might be my favorite. Well, after Santa,â Jaycee exclaimed.
Wesley chuckled and tossed a ball into the five-thousand-point hole. âYouâre welcome. Iâm glad youâre having a good time. Now remember, Jaycee, you canât tell Shannon that we got her something. It needs to be a surprise, okay?â
âOkay.â
âNo hints, either,â Brighton warned.
âI wonât tell. For reals,â Jaycee asserted.
âWell, we need to scoot if weâre going to go to our last destination.
