In Hunker's cafe, with wine and pipe,

We sat with one another.

A good measure of malt and hops,

The devil leads us on.

Ho, where the youths sing

And the guitars sound,

And the girls join in,

What can the life of Hitler give us?

We would rather be rebels (bündisch).

Ho, where the bowie knives gleam

And the Hitler Youths scurry away,

And the Navajos attack.107

Sometimes the songs contained a challenge, such as, “We would like to be free of Hitler,” or “the Navajos fight for the freedom of the youth.”108 The words of a song from Cologne were romantically heroic.
