Chapter 31 In Vitro Vino
Between the events of last night and less than two hours of sleep, that was the last morning anyone would want to mess with me. I was more like the walking dead, totally on automatic. I had skipped my estrogen for a few days after reading some scary news about hormone replacement therapy and I had cycles of heat the entire night.
The heat was so bad that I took off my nightgown and threw off the blanket and just laid there exposed and naked. When I got up in the morning, I had to search my bedroom for my nightgown. I looked through the bedspread, the blanket, and the sheets. I looked under the bed and all around the room. No nightgown.
Cold and groggy, I put on underwear, brushed my teeth, and shrieked when I stared into the face of a drained-looking middle-aged woman. I was a mess! My hair was frightening and even the bags under my eyes had bags. I still had scratches on my face from the other day and I wondered what Ryan could ever see in me.
Was I nuts or something? How could I turn away a loving guy like Ryan? What other man was out there for me? Sure. Tall, dark, and handsome guys were just standing outside banging down the door to date me.
I heard banging on the door. In my dreams!
I heard it again. There was really someone banging on my door at this ungodly hour.
I threw on a large sweatshirt that I found draped over a chair and looked out the peephole. I saw London standing on the sidewalk next to his car, my nightgown hanging from the antenna. In my late-night stupor, I must have thrown the nightgown out the window.
When I opened the door, London yelled, "Did you lose this?"
"What are you doing here? And how did you get my nightgown?"
I saw him look down, and then I realized that the sweatshirt was just barely long enough to cover my private stuff.
"Nice legs," he smiled. I slammed the door in his face.
As I got dressed and finished my morning routine, I looked out every so often and saw him sitting out there in his car. My nightgown was on his antenna, and he was reading a newspaper and drinking from a cup.
God really does work in mysterious ways. When you're hungry, She may give you food. When you're thirsty, She may give you water. When you're horny, she may give you Ryan. And when you're so packed with energy you want to scratch someone's eyes out, she gives you Herbert London sitting in his car like a lamb offered as a sacrifice.
If London hadn't interfered last night, I wouldn't have gotten so dirty, Nate would still be around, and the two truckers would still be alive. I'd still have a nice clean Lee Kirsty bag and I wouldn't have the bags under my eyes.
Thank you, God, for bringing him to my doorstep.
"How did you find out where I lived?" I started with.
