With its corrals on property, Tuscan Springs could accommodate visitors who owned their own horses or carriages (above), still the most popular form of transportation around 1900. But the resort also provided transport by stage, through Freeman’s Fashion Stables and, later, Walbridge’s own downtown stables. When affordable automobiles were finally in mass production, Walbridge purchased the first autostage to be used in Tehama County. In the photograph below, travelers wait for the Tuscan Springs autostage—which was scheduled to depart daily at 1:00 p.m.—in the park behind the Red Bluff Southern Pacific train depot.
