Conclusion

Based on my academic library practice, along with a research agenda on intellectual freedom in academic libraries for forty years, here are some thoughts on policy making for trigger warnings. You will note in this conclusion that trigger warnings are barely mentioned, as I believe they are a symptom of a much larger systemic problem with racism and other discriminatory behavior in U.S. society, which is then reflected in the structure and practice of higher education.

Without academic freedom, college and university campuses will lose their potential and meaning for students and society at large. In the United States, academic freedom is a strong tradition and its loss would be a tragedy for the entire world.
