Chapter 16

Akshay

“To what do I owe your visit?” I remark, while crossing the carpet floor, my eyes taking in the sight of Samira. God, why the hell does she have to look so gorgeous all the bloody time? Dressed in a pair of black pants and a green crochet top, she looks stunning, and her radiant face captivates me. Put it all together and it is knocking my mind off. Without taking my eyes off, I take my time ogling at her. I can sense her restlessness but I ignore it.

“If you are done staring at me, can we talk? I have something important to discuss,” her voice is firm and irritated as she treats me to a glare.

I tilt my head. “I am worried what it might be this time. The last time you showed up unannounced, you scared my date away.”

Her jaws tighten. “I can bet with my bottom dollar that you were happy I helped you get rid of her. So please don’t sound like you are heartbroken.”

“I am not,” I grin, having a gala time provoking her. “I must say, for once, your meddling nature came in handy.”

“Now if you’re done blabbering, can we have the talk?” Her eyes flash with anger.

“Of course.” I nod in agreement and gesture with my hand towards my office. She shoots me one last look, exasperation and annoyance all wrapped into one, before turning around as she walks ahead of me.

As I walk past my secretary, I instruct, “Keep all my calls on hold. I don’t want to be disturbed.”

“Got it, Sir.”

I push open the office door as Samira and I step in.

“So, what is it that you wanted to talk about?” I ask, walking towards my desk and settling on my chair while she chooses to stay on her feet opposite me.

“I was at your parents’ house today regarding the wedding preparations,” she utters.

“I am aware of it. Mom did inform me. I hope all went well?”

“It did. I had a good time with your mom.”

“I am happy to hear that.” My chest heaves with relief that she is not here to cancel the wedding and she is still on board as far as the wedding is concerned. “You still didn’t tell me the reason for your visit. Not that I am complaining; it’s just I am a bit curious.”

“I have made a decision with regard to our marriage.”

“Go on. I am listening.” I say, intrigued by her serious demeanour.

“As you are aware, this isn’t a typical normal marriage,” she points out, with a disapproving frown. “We don’t like each other. We are not even perfect for each other. We are in this only for our families.” I nod in agreement, letting her continue. “And if the whole purpose of it is to keep our families happy, then we got to put in the extra effort to make sure their happiness stays.”

I am quiet for a few seconds, thinking deeply but unable to figure out where she is going with all this.
