Amy was pleased that she had the alliteration of bored and blah, dull and dreary, glitter and glamour, perfect and pinecone. And when she typed it up on the computer, she could make each line print in a different color. She could even sprinkle a bit of glitter on each ad. She couldn’t believe anyone else would think of creating an ad for their product. Maybe she and Violet could sell three hundred pinecones, after all.

“Clear off the table, girls. It’s time for dinner,” Amy’s father said. He hesitated. “Violet, why don’t you call your parents and ask if you can stay.”

Amy would have shot him an angry look, if she hadn’t been afraid Violet would see it. She didn’t want her strange father issuing invitations to her strange friends—strange not-even-friends—to eat his strange meals, even though so far the meals had turned out to be surprisingly good. But Violet was already racing eagerly to the kitchen phone.

“I don’t want anyone to miss out on Moroccan lamb with couscous!” Amy’s dad said.

Amy couldn’t stay angry. Her dad and Violet both looked so happy that Amy started to let herself hope that maybe Divine Decorations were the secret to happiness.
