Time was running out for England. They needed a goal to reach the 2002 World Cup. Superstar David Beckham had a free kick from 25 yards out. The Greece defenders formed a wall in front of him. Beckham approached the ball wide from the left and kicked the right side of the ball with the inside of his right foot. The ball flew high and to the right of the goal. Suddenly, it swerved to the left. Its flight curved so much that the goalkeeper could not get to it. The ball went inside the left post for a goal. Beckham’s ability to bend shots even inspired a movie that year called Bend it Like Beckham. Beckham tells young players to practice bending shots because they are nearly impossible to stop.
